Inspired by the futurist question - imagine that the thing has already happened (carbon neutrality, a mass migration from the coasts) - then think about "how did we get there? -
and inspired by the Tim Ferriss question - what if it were easy? (what would it look like if it were easy?) -
and inspired by the culture of complaint of co-workers at school -
and inspired by my own sense of end of day weariness, the sense that I need to recuperate the minute I get back from work -
I had this thought:
What if teaching made you more energetic by the end of the day? First, it would be helpful to imagine an energy gauge (maybe an app on your phone? maybe an analog gauge (like an air pressure gauge?) implanted in your body? Throughout the day, you'd be measuring the current state. You'd notice that through the day it's not a steady drop (or preciptious drop). You'd not be "in the red" after lunch. The needle wouldn't be pegged at the bottom at end of day. Instead, specific activities throughout the day (and not just jolts of caffeine) would buoy the needle up. Imagine that it's already like that.
Now, peak into your own classroom. What would class time look like? What would it sound like? What activities would I be planning that would make the class time filled with learning AND positive feelings?
What would "grading" look like? What would the hours of class planning look like? (partly this would be a matter of "being kind to your future self"
What would the endless cycle of meetings and phone calls and emails look like?
