Parent/Teacher Conferences are coming up soon, so I wanted
to take this opportunity to touch base. My wife and I are expecting our
third child towards the end of October. I will be taking an FMLA leave
from that time until the end of the semester, and will return to my classes
when second semester begins in January. I have worked with my
teams and the English Department Chair to make sure the transition goes
smoothly.
Since I’ll be gone during Fall Parent/Teacher Conferences, I
will not be available to meet with you. I will have updated quarter
grades in HAC as of 10/17. For students whose performance I’m concerned
about, I plan on reaching out to several parents to touch base this week.
If I don’t contact you individually next week, it’s because I think that your
son or daughter is doing well and I have no concerns about progress. If I
don’t call you next week, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me after
conferences if you have concerns about your son or daughter. Please know
I will also be available for the Spring Parent/Teacher Conferences.
The teacher who will be taking on these classes will reach
out to you to introduce herself just after she begins. You’ll be able to
meet the substitute on both days of PT conferences – just stop by my desk in
the fieldhouse on Thursday night or in the English Office (room 240) to find
her. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to call me or the English
Dept Chair, David Lange, at dlange@hinsdale86.org
or 630-570-8350.
Not going to be able to do PT conferences?
Dear
parents and guardians,
I am
writing to inform you that I will not be present for fall PT conferences this
year.
This coming
week, I will be contacting a number of parents who I’d especially like to talk
with about student performance. If I don’t contact you individually, it’s
because I think that your son or daughter is doing well and I have no concerns
about progress. I will have updated quarter grades in HAC as of 10/17/2018.
In the
upcoming quarter, we will be focusing on reading, analyzing, and connecting to
short stories in the collection Interpreter of Maladies, as well as
working on passage analysis writing. Students will also begin exploring writing
creative nonfiction, which will carry into third and fourth quarters as well.
We will also continue Book Love throughout the school year – the kids have
amazed me with the number of books they’ve collectively read so far.
I will be
available in the spring PT conferences. If I don’t call you next week,
please don’t hesitate to reach out to me after conferences if you have concerns
about your son or daughter. I am really enjoying English 2 Honors this
year – the students are so engaging and a lot of fun!
Regards,
