Thanks so much for sharing the Courtney Obit. You are correct, his time in the 1956 Olympics of 1:47.7 exactly matches Watcke's PR.
A few other items I found fascinating:
-Sports Illustrated put middle distance track runners on its cover back in the 1950s. When was the last time a track athlete graced the cover?!

-Love that he sought out his competitors training journals
