(from 2013 Journal) Look up NIU school of music auditions. NIU asks for different voicings of chords, simple sight readings of chords (Freddie Green style), and single lines 1st-5th positions. (I look it up because I feel like I'm learning songs, but no basic knowledge about music, core knowledge, that could even get me to start a program of music.)
"Be able to performa all of the following from memory: autumn leaves, blue bossa, all of me, misty, just friends, how high the moon, so what, blues on f(?), b-flat, be prepared to play melody, chord changes, and an improvise solo, as well as a chord/melody style solo on a jazz ball (eg. Misty or Body and Soul);
for classical, it was perform two or three short works of intermediate difficulty e.g. Sor Studies 1-5, Brouwer Etudes 1-5; villa Lobos Prelude 1 (Jason scoffed at the 2nd 3rd ones); also, two octave major and minro scales, rest stroke and freestroke, 8th notes at quarter note-120 BPM; "Segovia fingers preferred"
Jason (my guitar teacher in 2013) disdain for schools of music.
