On Writing 10 Haikus in 10 days

A couple autumns ago, I wrote a haiku per day for ten days.  I wrote each haiku based on something that I saw or noticed that day.  As "preparation" for each poem, I wrote down in my Field Notes notebook ten things that I "noticed" on that day, usually involving nature.

Here are the ten haikus that I wrote:

1

Bluejays skim thru red

Last leaves and now disappear

In evergreen's clutch.

2

The mulberry tree

relinquished its leaves: too soon!

Mittons green not gold.

3

On my way to work

Each chimney begins to smoke

It's  7 AM

4

Smirk of the Chesire

Moon -- fleeing the lazy late

Autumn morning sun

5

Around the bend -- train's

wheel whistles high single note

 between its teeth

5

My long dim shadow --

Cast by lights across the park --

Leans into the wind

6

Late night cleaning crew --

Peaceful, alone -- softly sings

 Transistor pop song

7

Quantum changes -- now

Geese and now silver maple

Leaves half clenched and dry

7

Fall changes every-

Thing -- geese fill the parks, ginkgo

Leaves have left their trees.

8

Under the puddle

Sunken autumn leaves. Bald trees

Reflected on top.

9

The autumn sun has

Set and all is dimmed but the

Jet is still on fire.

10

 Sickle moon just still

Above the houses is now

Unremarkable
