Recently I posted a journal entry I did in 2016. It was about developing an "appetite" for the world. It's opposed to being "braced" for what life was (maybe) throwing at you. It was about being open versus being reactionary.
It's a similar theme to many of the posts I've done in my first 50 blog posts: about "meeting the world with the expectation of beauty," and "being receptive like a seismograph," and "open heartedness" and "attentional hygiene." All of them are about way we can spoil the day versus being open to the "blessings," the natural beauty, the opportunities for relationship, the 'nectar' that can come out of daily living and even out of failure (link).
Here are some ideas I've been circling around:
- It's about "protection" from bad influences - TV, gossip, mean people (attentional hygiene)
- It's about setting intentions and preparing our hearts and selves for each day (each hour?)
- It's about maintaining an open, receptive, engaged interface with the world: being open, attuned, aroused, versus being "braced" (from "Getting Unstuck" by Pema Chodron -- "Opening to the unknown future as thrilling rather than threat."
- it's about "cleaning the lens of your glasses" and noticing the natural world which is the opposite of the constructed world of influence and is constantly changing and beautiful and filled with peace... writing it down
- it's about the regular habit of reflection, meditation, fasting from society, and constantly constructing a "hand-chosen" life - it's the practice
