| Austin Kleon's blog |
Zoom meetings during the pandemic, especially in the last month or so, have allowed me to skim through 10 years of Austin Kleon blog posts. It was about 140 PAGES of blog entries. As a regular newsletter reader, I had seen a good percentage of the writing. Besides giving me a sense of the chronological arc of his career as author and speaker, it reminded me of how much I have found inspiration from his writing.
Here are ten things that I learned or re-learned, was inspired by or was re-inspired by:
- I've been introduced to many people (Corita Kent, Lynda Barry, Jason Pollan, James Clear, Mandy Brown), and books (Stilgoe, this book is a planetarium, Learning by Heart by Corita Kent and Jan Steward , Ed Emberly Drawing book, Lynda Barry Syllabus) and videos that I wouldn't have come across.
- Images and artwork that I love
- Quotes that I'll use (link)
- His notebook scheme, adapted from Thoreau and David Sedaris - (link to "notebook turducken")
- Writing exercises that I'll use while teaching
- His year end lists - 100 Things that Made My Year (link to tag from blog), Book Lists (link to tag from blog)
- His work philosophy - Do one small thing every day, mark it off on a calendar with an X
