With the polar vortex and the daily dose of snow, it's the season of icicles. My first response has been anxious - ice dams on the house! Water damage! But I've also been reminded of the often beautiful ways ice and snow is sculpted by nature during the times of ice and wind and freeze and thaw. Yesterday I noted the perfectly arched cap on a handrail that was dark black and white... like fine marble.
And that image brought me back to Andy Goldsworthy, who uses the forces of nature to create beautiful sculpture. He's the artist I think about most.
